Allegheny pathologist to assist on autopsies
World-renowned forensic pathologist Dr. Cyril Wecht, of Allegheny County
may soon be available to assist Schuylkill County Coroner Dr. David J. Moylan.
County commisioners have agreed to contract Dr. Wecht for pathological services
on a case-by-case basis. Forensic pathologists are scarce with only 27 in the state.
Dr. Richard Bindie's duties are limited with increased duties. Wecht will only
charge $1,750 for a complete medical-legal autopsy which includes morgue fees,
saving the county about $575 per autopsy as opposed to conducting
pathological autopsies in Dauphin County.
The Schuylkill County Coroners Office
8th Annual Forensic Symposium was held
on April 27th, 2019
Dr. Moylan spoke of Virtual Autopsies and their cost effectiveness to save the
County money, $2000/$3000 for traditional Autopsy as opposed to just around
$100 or less for Virtual Autopsy. Other keynote speakers such as Cyril
Wecht, M.D. American forensic pathologist discussed his concerns regarding such
cases as John F. Kennedy and JonBenet Ramsey. Furthermore Tiffany Brown Sr.
Investigator Clark County, NV, gave a detailed outline of the response efforts
and investigation of the Mandalay Bay Hotel Massacre, Las Vegas.
